The woman was caught on surveillance camera turning around after a vehicle hit a trio of pedestrians. She looked at the victims before continuing to devour her pizza slice.
All three pedestrians were taken to the hospital, where the youngest victim, Victoria Nicodemus, 30, was pronounced dead.
The driver of the SUV was arrested, and faces charges of driving without a license and driving without insurance.
Police said that the woman had been under no legal obligation to help. However, she was criticized by some local workers who spoke with DNAinfo.
“I don’t know how you could keep eating your pizza and keep walking. There’s no reason, at least try. Make it your business to help. Not OK. … wouldn’t you want to help?” Lerima Guadelupe, a local bakery worker told the publication
“All I can say is the world we live in, some people are cold-hearted. There’s nothing I can do to change them. God have mercy on them and that’s it,” a nearby deli worker, Frank Lopez, said.
Another cafe worker, Xiomara Morgan, came to her defense:
“Honestly, I can’t judge her. She has her own reason for walking away in a situation like that.”
COMMENTS
Compassion is not a “Constitutional Freedom” or one of the 10 Commandments. She probably just smoked a blunt and her primary focus was on fuckin up that slice and not giving a shit about the world around her.
